Rapid flood simulation involves a “modelling tool focused on simulation of flood processes.” (ITC, Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, 2024)

One new approach involves a method that “computes flood hazard maps over three orders of magnitude faster than current state-of-the-art methods. It applies physically-based principles of steady-state flow to evade full dynamic aspects of flood simulations. It directly estimates the relevant information for flood hazard, such as peak flow height, velocity and flood arrival time.” (van den Bout et al., 2023)
